Rewind

Rion sat back and sighed as the ending theme and animation of the show he had just watched faded to black.

The first episode of Digital Adventure was pretty good, overall. The art was cool, the music catchy, the voice acting solid. And most importantly, the characters weren't caricatures of themselves.

Most of them, anyway.

When Rion’s anime character appeared, he couldn't help but cringe. The producers had completely nailed his feelings and motivation at the time, and he was completely ashamed of his actions.

He had lost his way, had gone over the edge into darkness, because he felt hurt, betrayed and forgotten. Revenge had burned in his heart like a wildfire. When it had finally run its course, he had hurt himself and everyone he was close to.

What could have happened if he had chosen a different path? If he had decided to set aside his anger and pain and join the rest of the Chosen Children from the beginning?

A lot less wasted time. A stronger bond with the other kids. A united front against Mataymon and the Midnight Army long before they attempted to invade the Real World.

And so on, and so on.

Rion sighed. Hindsight was definitely 20/20.

He had originally planned to follow the show from the beginning, if only to satisfy his burning curiosity. But now he had second thoughts. The idea of watching himself make the same mistakes he had made in the past made him feel more uncomfortable than he had bargained for. Perhaps it was best to wait, and pick the show back up when his character finally had some sense knocked into him.

Rion nodded to himself, making his decision, and got up from the sofa, turning off the TV in the process.

Notes:

After writing this, I couldn't help but wonder, how do celebrities react to biographies about them or movies based on their own lives? Would they regret their actions, or stand by them?
