Sketches

These are my original character sketches for this story! I drew these sometime between 2000 and 2002, during the Digimon anime's original US run, when I was a bored 13-15 year old. I had completely forgotten these existed, and when I found them while cleaning the house recently, I immediately scanned them to preserve them! There are tons of ideas bouncing around in these drawings - many that made it into the final story, and others that didn't.

These sketches are incredibly old, and extremely rough, but they are the genesis of Digimon Infinity's visual development. I hope you'll appreciate them as much as I do!

Akira, Seita and Tian:

Kei, Yuka and Rion:

Kei looks very different from her final design - I was originally going for a look similar to Takeru from Digimon Adventure and Chihiro from Spirited Away, but she ended up looking too different from Akira for them to look like half-sisters, so I ended up changing her design later.

Digivice and Crest redesign:

At some point (2002?) I tried to redesign the Digivices and Crests, to make the Digivice more similar to the D-ark and the Crests more like chips (similar to the plug-in chips from Rockman EXE). I ended up not liking the redesign very much and scrapped it.

Some minor redesigns of a few characters, but only Kei's redesign made it into the story.

Naoko and Setsuko:

These are likely the first sketches I ever did for this story, in the fall of 2000, as Digimon Adventure ended in the US and 02 began. They were my very first Digimon OCs, with Naoko originally being a self-insert for me.

Tailmon's evolution line:

Naoko's original partner was a Digimon I made up, named Tailmon (due to her Pikachu-like lightning bolt tail) and was meant to be Gatomon with blades. I didn't know at the time that Gatomon's Japanese name was Tailmon!

Lunamon's evolution line:

Setsuko's original partner was another Digimon I made up, named Lunamon (due to her crescent moon-shaped tail) and was supposed to be Tailmon's twin. I never finished the rest of her evolution line - designing was really not my strong point, and still isn't...
