The Digital World

The Digital World of Digimon Infinity is greatly changed from what it once was in the days of Digimon Adventure. Normal islands and continents no longer exist, and in their place are massive super-islands called servers, separated by the miles of open sea that is the Net Ocean. Each server represents the digital footprint of each major country in the Real World. The largest and most populated servers are as follows:

  • Dakota Server - United States
  • Yorkshire Server - United Kingdom
  • Fujiyama Server - Japan
  • Guangdong Server - China
  • Kerala Server - India
  • Kaliningrad Server - Russia

There are currently a total of 208 networked servers in the Digital World, in addition to a single giant backup server: the Marianas Server.

The Marianas Server

The Marianas Server currently holds the backed-up remnants of Fujiyama Server, which was destroyed during the invasion of the Midnight Army roughly a year before the start of the story. It is where the Chosen Children begin their exploration of the Digital World, as all other servers have been taken over by the Midnight Army and closed to entry. The server is heavily forested, with the landscape typically alternating between swaths of trees and large clearings, but a few places provide a change of scenery.

Notable places on Marianas Server:

The Valley of Relics
The place where old junk goes to die. Rusted road signs, broken vending machines and the gutted remains of ancient streetcars are prevalent here. Kiwimon is the keeper of the valley, and her home holds the only working computer in the area.

The Desert of the Eternal Sun
A vast wasteland where the sun never sets, and the temperature never drops below hot. The heat is known to be intense enough to evaporate water. A series of sprawling tunnels can be found underground, beneath the desert.

Andromon's Pyramid
A large stone pyramid at the edge of the desert, with a small oasis. The pyramid contains a large, Escher-like maze full of boobytraps, which only Andromon, the master of the pyramid, can deactivate.

The Garden of Rainbows
A small village some miles away from the desert and Andromon's Pyramid, where the weather is always perfect. A group of Data and Vaccine Digimon live here, led by Wizardmon.

The Crystal Mountains
A large crystalline mountain range plagued by irregular weather patterns. Some parts are blazing hot due to the reflective properties of the crystal, while other parts are bitterly cold due to the shadows cast by the mountains.

Messenger Village
A ruined, abandoned village containing holograms of the Digimon Adventure-era Chosen Children, created to give an important message to the next group of kids.

Alchemon's Lab
A series of buildings in the middle of the forest where Alchemon performs his various experiments. He and the lab are completely destroyed in an altercation with Naoko.exe.

The Forbidden Castle
An old, crumbling castle in the middle of a snowy wasteland. It is unusually equipped with modern amenities and equipment, and laced with boobytraps. The surrounding wasteland also conceals a series of underground tunnels. The master of the castle is currently unknown.

The Jekuhaimon's Palace
A system of underground caverns made to resemble rich, palatial rooms. The decor is meant to lure unsuspecting visitors into becoming food for the Jekuhaimon.

Digital Transfer Lab
The gateway to the Real World from the Digital World, located in the forest with the colored leaves. The forest and the aboveground buildings were destroyed in a battle between Daemon and Helamon the previous year, but the underground levels are still intact.

The Meterostones

The Meterostones are the power cores of the Digital World, and have the ability to change the Digital World's weather conditions. There are 4 Meterostones on each server of the Digital World, including Marianas Server. In Marianas Server, Andromon’s Pyramid holds one Meterostone (representing summer), while the Garden of Rainbows holds another (representing spring). Another Meterostone is under the forest with the colored leaves (representing autumn) and is the main leaving point to the Real World. Another Meterostone is in the Forbidden Castle (representing winter). The areas with extreme weather have visible buildings to house Meterostones, and the milder areas have their cores underground.

The Edge

The boundary line between the Real and Digital Worlds, depicted as a thick wall of gray fog. Usually stable enough for a few Digimon and humans (with Digivices) at a time to pass, but in order for more to transfer and in different places at once, very detailed knowledge of the areas surrounding the breakthrough points is needed.

The Midnight Army planned to obtain breakthrough points by capturing a Chosen Child to undergo a mental probe to map the areas he or she is familiar with. This has happened with both Akira (from old data saved from her memory block procedure) and Tian (more detailed, with the full-blown procedure).

An easier way to obtain breakthrough points is to extract geographic information from satellites.

Before his death, Tian’s father, Tao-rin, discovered a plot by ITI to take over all of the satellites orbiting the earth and use the geographic information for an invasion of the Real World. He locked down the information behind a series of complex pass-phrases. He taught the pass-phrases to Tian when she was little, during their evacuation from China, and told her to remember them at all costs. Tian remembered these subconsciously, and they were buried deep within her memories (making Alchemon have to use the mind-block machine to extract her memories and look for the phrases within them, since her memories themselves did not contain enough geographical information).

Crossing the Edge from the Digital to the Real Worlds can only happen under ideal weather conditions. The skies must be clear, and there must be no form of precipitation. The temperature must be mild to only slightly cold (spring/fall weather). Because of the abundance of areas in the Digital World that are too hot, too cold, too snowy, or too rainy, there are only a few places that would suffice. Any other place would need a Meterostone to adjust the weather accordingly. Aside from the pure Meterostones that act as the 4 power cores of each Digital World server, Meterostones are only available in the cave systems and mines under the Desert of the Eternal Sun, but are too rough and filled with impurities to work with.

Formatted Space

A special space outside of the Digital World's normal areas, used as "scratch disk space" for the Digital World's normal functions, creation of new assets, and repair. Naoko.exe transports Akira and Kodamon here after their battle with Megidramon to heal and regain their memories.

Travel

Emergency Exits

All places within a given server are reachable on foot, but in times of emergency, fast travel between areas is possible through the use of emergency exits that are randomly scattered across the landscape. Emergency exits appear as bright curtains of light, and instantly transport anyone who touches the curtain.

The Projection System

A system of intermediary communication between Real and Digital Worlds without the need for complete realization or digitization and with no interference from the Edge. Projection is possible from the Real World to the Digital World, by way of ITI’s prototype MindProbe machines, leaving the people using it in a coma-like state in the Real World. Projection can also be used to travel to other parts of the Real World, using the Digital World as an intermediary.

Special Items

Black Gears

A way of controlling Digimon, as a way to get them to defeat the Chosen Children and support Mataymon’s attempts to stabilize the Edge, and to control the last server that wasn’t under their control. The whole concept failed, with Helamon’s destruction of Devimon and his Black Gear base in the Crystal Mountains.

The Black Gears were originally developed by the Magamis (Naoko Magami’s parents) between the summer of 1988 and the summer of 1995 (between the failed Mobius Project and the Hikarigaoka Incident) as a way to control wayward Digimon. The technology was stolen by Apocalymon and his servant Digimon to use for the Black Gears in Digimon Adventure.

Dark Seeds

A way of controlling humans, by increasing their intelligence, hijacking their personalities and filling them with evil thoughts.

The Dark Seeds were originally developed by the Magamis (Naoko Magami’s parents) between the summer of 1988 and the summer of 1995 as a way to delete wayward Digimon. They were programmed with a damaged version of a Digicode strand. The technology was stolen by Mataymon after the Great Shaking, and with the help of Minoru Araneta, was modified and reprogrammed by ITI scientists to affect humans. A Dark Seed was implanted into Touma Nogami five years before the present day, partly as a live experiment and partly as punishment by Minoru Araneta/Mataymon for getting in his way.

Code Generator

A handheld device developed by ITI that converts digital commands to real-world functions. Best used in situations where the line between the Digital World and Real World has weakened (for example, during Edge expansion and where Digital Gates are opened). Can be used by anyone, and can act as a Digivice for those who don’t have one. Appearance is identical to a D-Coder, but all-black in color.
